Teen Life [NiceNet Post]

Teen Life has its good and bad times. Most of the time it is very good though but it teaches you alot about adult life & how important everything is in the future, being a teenager gets you ready for the real world & what to expect as an adult. But some of the bad things in teen life is you never know whats going to happend, now that is also the same for adult hood but with teenagers its alot harder, you have to watch who you trust & who you hang out with because you never know when you could make the wrong desicion in teen life its espically important to make sure you dont make the wrong desicion because choices are very important.

#1 Question: (What Do You Think?) Which poem do you think has the most vivid images?. Explain why?
Answer: I think the "Dreaming Of Li Po" because it shows great detail in the pictures it uses.

Question: In "Dreaming Of Li Po", why is Tu Fu so worried about Li Po?
Answer: Tu Fu is so worried about Li Po because Li Po doesnt look the same or he doesnt seem the same.

Question: What has apparently happend to the prince and the palace in "Jade Flower Palace"?
Answer: What has happend to the prince and the palace is that everything is coming down, like everything is going bad and it seems that everything is just gone.

Question: In "Song of P'eng-ya," what act of kindness does Tu Fu's friend perform?
Answer: The kind of kindness Tu Fu's friend performs is by helping.

#2 Question: In "Dreaming of Li Po," what might each of the following refer to: "land of plaque and fever", "wings to fly with", "waters," "horned dragons"?
Answer: They might refer to different types of dragons and what could happend.

#3 Question: How would you summarize the theme, or message, of "Jade Flower Palace"
Answer: I would summarize the theme as well the palace had broken tiles, it has black rooms, it had ten thousand organ pipes, and gold chariots. What is left of the palace is pretty much nothing but his stone horse. I Think life was probably instering in the palace, it seems like they were the richy type also.

#4 Question: In "Song of P'eng-ya", what details does Tu Fu provide about a family fleeing from a rebel army that wouldn't appear in a factual historical account?
Answer: The details he provides about a family fleeing from a rebel army is that he remenbers everything that went on when that was happending.

[Answer] I didnt discover anything.

#6 [Comparing Texts] Question: Compare "Jade Flower Palace" with "Ozymandias" (Pages 466-467). How did the narrators differ in their attitude toward their subject? What similar atmosphere and message do the poems convey.
Answer: The attitudes were different because in "Jade Flower Palace" everything got destroyed and "Ozymandias" is talking about something completely different.

#7 [Critic's Corner] Question: One critic has said that Tu Fu's appeal may be due to "the way he documents his life, from the smallest details to the biggest dimensions of social context." Do the poems you have read support this statement? Explain your answer.
Answer: Yes they do because he does document the way his life is.

#8 [Connect To Life] Question: Although Tu Fu wrote in the eighth century, his poems are still enjoyed today. In what ways are his poems relevant to the modern world?
Answer: His poems are relevant to the modern world because everything there is pretty much still the same and could still happend!

Answer: I would say "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter" because it says the girl was bashful and im shy.

Question: In "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter" Why is the wife writing a letter?
Answer: The wife is writting a letter because her husband has been gone, so she's writing about everything.

Question: In "Still Night Thoughts" what does the speaker say the moonlight looks like?
Answer: The speaker says the moonlight looks like frost on the ground, and he dreams of home.

Question: What kind of scene does the poet describe in "Gazing at the Lu Mountain Waterfall?
Answer: The scene the poet describes is waterfalls.

#2 Question: How would you describe the realtionship between the speaker of "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter" and her husband?
Answer: The realtionship between the wife and the husband is difficult but yet serving because he has been gone for five months.

Answer: I think the sepaker's feelings are sad because the person has no more, and the person is probably lonely.

#4 Question: In "Gazing at the Lu Mountain Waterfall" what effect does seeing the waterfall have on the speaker?
Answer: The effect that seeing the waterfall has on the speaker is that he loves seeing the waterfall, and enjoys it very much.

Answer: They helped by showing the different details, and like the sences where you could tell what was going on by what the foreground (far away) looked like.

Answer: The differences in those poems are some seen happier than others.

#7 Question: [Connect To Life] In much of Li Po's poetry, nature is a source of renewal and serenity. How do people in today's world view nature.
Answer: The same way! Nature is a wonderful thing still today.

Question #1: (What Do You Think?) How did you react to the advice given in each of these poems?
Answer: The way i reacted to the advice given in the poems were good, they made since and they probably really did help ther person.

~Think Critically~
Question #2: In "Seize the Day", why does the speaker advise Leuconoe to live for today?
Answer: The speaker advises Leuconoe to live for today in "Seize the Day" because the speaker is trying to say to just live your life for today and not worry about tomorrow until it gets here.

Question #3: In your own words explain what you think the speaker of "Better to live, Licinius,..." means by "golden moderation."
Answer: The speaker is saying that a man of golden moderation stays clear of stuff that may be trouble.

~Active Reading: Understanding Contrast~
Question #4: Review what you listed in your readers notebook. For each poem, decide which contrast is most effective in conveying an idea.
Answer: Whats is different that gets the point across is ones dealing with living today for today while the other one is dealing with trouble.

Answer: They both teach and delight in many different ways.

Question #6: (The Writer's Style) Writers often use descriptive words and phrases to re-create sensory experiences for the reader. Such words and phrases are known as imagery. Each imagery appeals to one or more of the five senses. Cite examples of images in each of these poems. Which image do you find particulary effective?
Answer: The images in these poems are wonderful, i could see in real life where they would show alot of the senses. I think the first picture in "Better to live, Licinius,..." shows the most descripition.

Question #7: (Comparing Texts) Which poem do you think offers better advice and why?
Answer: I think that Seize the Day gives better advice because to me the saying "live life for today and not tomorrow is important"

Question #8: In "Seize the Day," the speaker says that it is important to "trim your hopes to fit your limits" (lines 6-7). Do you agree? Use examples from your own experience to support your opinion.
Answer: Not Really that might not always be true because your sit limits for yourself but sometimes your hopes are different.
