Poems By Sappho

#1 [Question] (What Do You Think?) Of the three poems, which do you think you understand best? Explain your reasons.
[Answer] I think i understand "He Is More Than a Hero" the best, it talks about someone who is dead but it seems like they are still around you all the time.

#3 [Question] In each poem the speaker describes a person, situation, or setting. In your own words, explain what the speaker is describing in each case.

[Question] Why thinking about Helen of Troy makes the speaker think of Anactoria's absence in "Some say thronging cavaly..."
[Answer] Thinking about Helen of Troy makes the speaker think of Anactoria's absence in "Some say thronging cavaly because it deals with horses and soliders while in helen of troy it was about horses and soliders.

[Question] How the speaker feels about the person spoken to in "He Is More Than A Hero"
[Answer] The speaker feels great but yet sad about the person spoken to in "He Is More Than A Hero" because he misses the person but he also still feels like hes there with her or she still.

[Question] The setting described in "To Aphrpdite" is a wonderful nice peaceful sitting with beautiful roses, and apples that im sure smell good on the apple tree.

#4 [Question] On the basis of the three poems you have read, decide which two of the following statements best apply to Sappho. Use evidence from the poems to support your choices.

[Answer] I think its "To Aphrodite of the flowers, at knosses" because none of the other ones relates to someone apprecitating the beauty of nature.

#6 [Question] (Connect To Life) If Sappho's poems were to be set to music today, what contemporary singer do you think would do them justice? Explain your choice.

[Answer] I have no idea
